Scientists: Atom-smasher Won’t Bring Armageddon

TechnologyScientists: Atom-smasher Won’t Bring ArmageddonScientists: Atom-smasher Won’t Bring ArmageddonThe Associated PressThe most powerful atom-smasher ever built could make some bizarre discoveries after it is switched on in August. But some critics fear the Large Hadron Collider could exceed physicists’ wildest conjectures. (June 28)[Notes:Dateline: MEYRIN, Switzerland] It’s being called the largest scientific experiment in history …And some say one that **could** cause Armageddon.This five-point-eight billion-dollar machine is designed to break up atoms …It’s called the Large Hadron Collider or LHC … An underground tunnel 17 miles wide … Attached to several particle detectors the size of office buildings. Those detectors will look for signs of invisible dark matter … a so-far undiscovered particle smaller than the atom….one scientists believe gives matter mass.But critics say this mammoth machine **could** destroy the world.That’s because … By the end of the summer … the Collider is scheduled to generate energies seven times higher than any other machine in history. [Notes:SOUNDBITE Lyn Evans, LHC project leader, CERN: "I think, obviously, we have no concerns at all, there is a huge community of scientists who know what they are talking about and are sleeping quite soundly concerning the LHC. But nevertheless, this creates problems in the general public who are seriously concerned, and we have to answer to that."]Concerns that these scientists don’t

    These Monsters that rule and make shit like this is playing with fire. They are going to reap what they sow!!!

    Guaranteed

  • SomeRandomTangent:

    @islandD917 That’s a lot to risk

    The pope and the vatican is the abomination of desolation JESUS CHRIST our lord warned us about in daniel 7. The last pope will be the anti christ the last pope is the beast from rev 13 the man who makes a new world order with the help of satan. The pope changed Gods times and laws killed the saints and claimed to be JESUS’s SUBSTITUTE ON EARTH these are the 3 sighns of the anti christ and only the pope fullfiled them. he owns america and the freemasons and illumanati and jesuites

    “i say dont turn the damn thing on get rid of the machine if it will destroy our earth”

    Please return your computer and internet connection back to the shop. Because those evil scientists created your computer using these evil accelerator technology.
    Also stay away from X-ray scanners, CT-scanners and MRI-scanners, since these are also developed by scientists doing experiments like the LHC.

    @CrushPartyIce
    “WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY BUILD THIS SHIT ANYWAYSS??”

    Look at your computer. That is why!
    The internet you are using, is developed by CERN.
    Broke a leg lately? Well X-Rays, CT scanners, MRI scanners are the direct result of these experiments. LED’rs, LCD TV’s, even electricity all results by scientists doing experiments just like this.

    @challywang 13.7 billion

  • xamire:

    @CrushPartyIce Because we though for a very long time that the lowest depth you could go with mass, was the atom. Which isn’t true, quarks, and other elementary particles make up the atom pieces. Now we want to know how far down it really goes. Just how far down into the subatomic world can we go?

  • xamire:

    What they’re really trying to find is what quarks and other “elementary particles” are made up of, or if they are even made up of anything at all. Hence why they need to hit atoms, with much more force than what anyone else has thus far.

    I think there is. It’s almost seems as though it’s never ending. Quarks etc will be made up of something, and those things will be made up of something else. On and on.

  • TheEvilCommenter:

    All the people who are afraid of it are idiots who dont understand it. All it does is hit atoms togther and observe what particals come out they are trying to find out what atoms are made of and then what makes up those things and so on.

  • VeradoonKing:

    Laypeople are pretty stupid.

  • CrushPartyIce:

    WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY BUILD THIS SHIT ANYWAYSS??

  • JoeyBoyEre:

    i wish i could ride that. 99.9% the speed of light.WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • challywang:

    Wtf??? I thought the universe was 14 billion years old. 5 billion years old? Wtf…

  • bigvaxo:

    when will this research end working

  • llamaspit3838:

    @scottinthedark this could solve alot of problems in the world so no its not a waste

  • scottinthedark:

    i swear the money for this could solve alot problems in the world what a waste

  • Faburro:

    We all shouldn’t be worrying, every multi-billion dollar research centre has a Gordon Freeman on site.

  • VanHollam:

    @islandD917 Hey, we the inverter of dynamite created it, but, in the process killed him self. To make progress, you must use all variables, even “if” they may kill you! Then again, that is what progress is.

  • VanHollam:

    @3905639060 Can it kill us all? Yes, on a chance of less than 0.01%.

  • VanHollam:

    @SoviPaPa I only swear when making a point. You are fucking right on that point.

  • VanHollam:

    @3905639060 I believe in god, but I do not think he created the earth. You got to think outside the box and listen to theories. I think he “may” of created the universe, but I would not care to know. :P

  • SoviPaPa:

    there are soo many stupid people on this planet…

  • 3905639060:

    i say dont turn the damn thing on get rid of the machine if it will destroy our earth

  • 3905639060:

    @louistyson1 god created the earth, no 1 else

  • CatZilla2007:

    It’s human nature to tinker with things and see how they work and what they are made up of. Let’s just hope they know what they are doing and not fuck anything up in the process.
