UPDATE SEPT 26 2011: spaceweather.com today! IMPACT: A coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth’s magnetic field at approximately 12:15 UT on Sept. 26th. The impact caused significant ground currents in Norway. Also, the Goddard Space Weather Lab reports a “strong compression of Earth’s magnetosphere. Simulations indicate that solar wind plasma [has penetrated] close to geosynchronous orbit starting at 13:00UT.” Geosynchronous satellites could therefore be directly exposed to solar wind plasma and magnetic fields. This is one of the strongest solar flares recorded. Initially it was rated a X28-class flare but later was upgraded to anywhere above X40. Thus the name “The X-Whatever” flare. Just as solar scientists were ready to start breathing normally again, active region 10486 blasted off yet another mega-flare, starting at 19:29 UT on 4 November 2003. This one saturated the X-ray detectors on the NOAA’s GOES satellites; the jury was therefore out for a while on the definitive classification of the flare. Based on the data found on the NOAA SEC’s space weather pages (and links therein), speculations ranged from simply well above X20, to X40 or even X50! A day later, word came from the SEC that their best estimate was X28, with a peak around 19:50 UT. Although the exact number will likely be debated for some time, it is now official: We have a new #1 X-ray flare for the record books. Earlier flares from the same region are described on this Hot Shot page. Taken together with the breathtaking farewell of region 10486, the last two weeks will stand out for decades in the X-ray flare community. Saturation of the GOES detectors also happened once earlier in SOHO’s history, on 4 April 2001. That flare was reclassified as an X20. A very preliminary estimate based on just 3 images of the associated CME came out at about 2300 km/second. Although part of the CME is directed towards Earth, we expect to receive only a glancing blow, since the source region is right on the limb of the Sun as …
As seen unidentified objects in large quantities, perform maneuvers with each other and relative to the sun. Perhaps, therefore, create a UFO the energy shield. Please note that the UFO flies to the sun and fly away from the Sun. This suggests that it is not an error SOHO satellite’s camera is not charged particles from solar flares and is not a waste. This is the real objects of different shapes and sizes. 9/28/11: There is a possibility for blackouts and cell phone outages in the next 24 hours due to large X Class Solar Flares. There is a 40% chance for this happening as the sun rotates and sun spot 1302 faces the earth directly.
AURORA WATCH: A minor solar wind stream could hit Earth’s magnetic field on Aug. 23-24, stirring up geomagnetic activity around the Arctic Circle. SHAPE-SHIFTING SUNSPOT: Every time you look, sunspot 1271 has a new outline. For the past two days the active region has been in a constant state of change, altering its shape on an hourly basis. These rapid changes have caused the sunspot’s magnetic field to criss-cross and tangle. The magnetic field now has a “beta-gamma” configuration that harbors energy for M-class solar flares. Any such flares today would be approximately Earth-directed because the sunspot is not far from disk-center. Readers with sunspot telecopes are encouraged to monitor developments.
GEOMAGNETIC STORM: A geomagnetic storm (Kp=5) is in progress following another impact from a coronal mass ejection(CME). AURORA WATCH: High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras tonight. A solar wind stream is buffeting Earth’s magnetic field and causing intermittent geomagnetic storms around the poles. ACTIVE SUNSPOT: New sunspot AR11295 is emerging over the sun’s northeastern limb and crackling with solar flares. The strongest so far, a C9.9-category blast, did something remarkable. WEEKEND AURORAS: A coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth’s magnetic field on Sept 17th, sparking a moderate geomagnetic storm (Kp=6) and auroras around the Arctic Circle.
