Nothing Else Matters ~ Ch. 13

I just wrote my first duet! It’s pretty sucky though. Haha. So here it is. Chapter 13. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Rebecca’s POV) I knew Kevin would keep asking about me crying last night but I didn’t blame him. I would be just as confused as he was now. “It’s alright if you don’t want to tell me.” Truth is, I really did want to tell him. It would explain a lot and he wouldn’t have to wonder for the rest of his life. “No, I’ll tell you.” I got ready to explain. Not just the dream… but everything. I took a deep breath and let it out. “Last night, I… I had a dream and… you were in it. In the dream, you and I were having a picnic but then a really bad storm interrupts. Then, I see a girl in the distance and I call her ‘Susan.’ We start walking to each other and you try to stop me but I keep going. We’re right in front of each other and out of nowhere, a lightning bolt hits her.” I paused for a moment and looked at Kevin. He looked really interested. I kept going. “After that, she disappeared. I start screaming for her to come back and then you drag me away against my will. You tell me to come to your room, that you’ll help me. And you get hit by lightning and disappear too.” I knew this sounded like gibberish to him. It didn’t mean anything to him. I had to explain everything else. “The girl in my dream… Susan… that’s my sister.” Kevin’s mouth dropped open. I had told him about my brother Daniel but not about Susan. “Well… she WAS my sister.” I took

Metallica – Nothing Else Matters [Official Music Video]

SONG FACTS: Singer and rhythm guitarist “James Hetfield” wrote this song while he was on the phone with his girlfriend at this time. Since he held the phone with one hand, he plucked the four open strings of a standard E-minor chord with the other, which eventually made up the first two bars of the song. The lyrics were also dedicated to his girlfriend, which talk about being “so close, no matter how far”, indicating the bond they shared even when Hetfield was on tour. Initially, the song was not meant to go on the album, and Hetfield had written it for himself, but only after drummer Lars Ulrich heard it was it considered for the record. This is one of the few Metallica songs where James Hetfield played the guitar solo rather than Kirk Hammett. Hetfield explained this song to Mojo magazine December 2008. Said the Metcallica singer: “It’s about being on the road, missing someone at home, but it was written in such a way, it connected with so many people, that it wasn’t just about two people, it was about a connection with your higher power, lots of different things.” Hetfield added: “I remember going to the Hell’s Angels Clubhouse in New York, and they showed me a film that they’d put together of one of the fallen brothers, and they were playing Nothing Else Matters. Wow. This means a lot more than me missing my chick, right? This is brotherhood. The army could use this song. It’s pretty powerful.” Hetfield told Mojo that after penning this love ballad, he was initially
