World’s Largest K’nex Roller Coaster Loop (with POV)

This is the largest K’nex roller coaster loop ever constructed. The loop stands 12 feet tall and uses over 9000 pieces. The train is launched by a chain of 20 rubber bands at 40 miles per hour. The loop itself contains nearly 40 feet of track, and there are 100 feet of track in the entire roller coaster. This roller coaster was built in 10 days by Austin Granger and Sam Ihlenfeldt. Information: Built time – 10 days Pieces – 10000 Track length – 100 feet Max Speed – 40 MPH Loop Diameter – 12 feet Power Source – Rubber Band Launch -Frequently Asked Questions- Q. Why is the loop perfectly round and not shaped like a normal loop? A. The ratios of the K’nex pieces do not allow for the subtle changes in curvature needed to produce the “classic” loop shape. Q. How did you get the smooth slow-motion footage? A. The camera we used is the Casio Exilim EX-FC100 which shoots high-speed video at up to 1000 frames per second. Q. Why does the track move so much during the launch? A. Two reasons. One, that section of track was not anchored to the ground like the rest. Two, that deflection is invisible to the naked eye, but when filmed at 1000 frames per second (slowed down 33 times) it is extremely obvious. Q. How did you get the POV shot? A. I attached an old point-and-shoot camera to the train with 3 cable-ties. During that shot I broke 2 of my roller coaster cars. Q. What do you do during bad weather? A. The giant A-frame supporting the top of the loop makes the structure virtually

Meyers Lake Park & COMET roller coaster ~ Canton, Ohio

Meyers Lake Park was a small traditional amusement park in Canton, Ohio. Like many small amusements parks in the 70’s, Meyers Lake fell victim to the changing times. The park owners tried reviving the parks attendance with a world record coaster marathon in 1972, but the declining attendance continued, sealing the fate of this once popular lakeside park in 1974. Thanks to the Sinclair & Garner child for allowing the use of these video clips which I edited and shuffled about with a new audio track.

Intimidator POV – Carowinds NEW ROLLER COASTER FOR 2010!!!

Carowinds welcomes their largest single investment since the park’s opening in 1973 with Intimidator. The million dollar 10-acre Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coaster is set to dominate the park’s skyline with its 232 lift and 5316 foot length. Reaching a top speed of 80mph the ride will take the “big-three” (tallest, fastest, longest) titles for the Southeastern United States region. Also among the ride’s features are 7 hills, and 8 drops (including the first drop), four of which stand over 100 feet tall, and three trains themed to Dale Earnhardt’s 1998 Chevrolet Monte-Carlo racing car. Bolliger & Mabillard is recognized as the industry leader in high quality steel roller coasters since their incorporation in the late 1990s. The firm has designed and built over 60 roller coasters to date, and are known for their unrivaled impeccable safety, reliability, and capacity records. The company has built 20 coasters of the 50 coasters on the official Amusement Today Top 50 Steel Coasters list (known as the Academy Awards of the amusement park industry), more than any other manufacturer. This is the same company that brought Afterburn/Top Gun to the park in 1999, and Vortex in 1992. For more information, videos, pictures, wallpapers, etc. visit the ride’s official website at:
